Rossinière - Manifestations
Cats are honoured for the sixth time in Rossinière !
Unusual and traditional, multi-coloured and single colours: a thousand and one felines will be on show this summer in Rossinière for the occasion of the 6th “Kingdom of the Cats” show. Open to children and adults, the contest was launched in 2004 as a tribute to the painter, Balthus and one of his most famous self-portraits: "The King of Cats". The idea: use your imagination to create one cat or a number of cats, as you wish. The only condition: the objects must be able to resist time. Each year, from June to September, thirty or so works created by amateur and established artists brighten up the streets and barns of the village, to the delight of passers by. For the sixth edition the organizers have pulled out all the stops.
Visit to Balthus’ workshop
During the three months of the exhibition the public will also have the opportunity to visit Balthus’ workshop, located opposite the Grand Chalet, where the artist lived for the last 20 years of his life. A visit is well worth the detour. Currently accessible by appointment only, the workshop has remained intact since the death of the painter 18 years ago. One can still admire the brushes, paints and paintings which have barely been touched, as well as unfinished works by the artist. Diving into the life of this major artist is a wonderful experience for art lovers. The event will close on September 7th, the day on which the King or Queen of Cats, as elected by the public, will be presented with a sceptre designed by Harumi Klossowska de Rola as a trophy. The Kingdom of the Cats is an event which should not be missed under any circumstances.
Opening ceremony: Saturday 15 of June 2019, at 2:00 pm on the Placette.
Crowning of the King of the Cats: Saturday, 7 of September 2019
